The Chillington Hall Spring Challenge events wind through the private estate of the Giffard Family. Remaining in their family for 29 generations they kindly open up the estate for our annual Chillington Challenge.

Take in the views and splendour of this wonderful estate as you run through its varied landscape. Both courses flow past the grand house, through the woodland and on to loop around the beautiful tranquil lake.

A custom made Chillington Hall medal for all finishers!

On site will be The Olde Horsebox. A 1980’s Rice Beaufort horse trailer which has been lovingly restored by owners Rachel and Jane.

On offer are a selection of freshly ground, hand pulled barista style coffee.

They also sell a selection of teas, hot chocolates, and traditional milkshakes to temp you with pre and post race.

When is race day?

2020 date being confirmed soon! - Both events start at 11.00am.

Where is it?

Chillington Hall, Port Lane, Brewood, Staffordshire, WV8 1RE.

Am I able to park?

We have arranged plenty of car parking for participants and this is included in your entry fee.

Are there any changing facilities?

You'll need to arrive ready to race as there are no showers / changing rooms on site, only toilets.

Where are the toilets?

Right near the start area.

Are these events timed?

Yes, we are using one of the most accurate chip timing systems available today. This doesn't mean you have to be a competitive runner to enter, simply everyone will have their time recorded no matter how leisurely you want to get round.

What about spectators?

Friends and family are encouraged to come along and there are no additional spectator / parking fees. The start and finish are in the same place and allows them to wave you off and cheer you back in without having to move, but there's always the lovely grounds to explore a good viewing point for the more adventurous.

What are the routes like?

The clue is in the name, it's not hilly, but can be 'challenging' for novices due to the uneven / undulating terrain. But that said, everyone gets round with a smile on their face so it's fun for all abilities. The routes are approx 11.3K for the shorter event and 13.2 miles for the half, they may vary slightly each year due to the changing forestry boundaries. Both follow the many trails and paths through the beautiful and varied Chillington Estate. Terrain includes grass, fields, mud and gravel. Both start near the grand house and go up and down the main driveway, before leading off around the beautiful woodland and lake (ensure you read 'loop information' in the email receipt you get on sign up if you're doing the half marathon!) There is a short bit on tarmac near the start and finish area to maximise space for runners to spread out. No killer hills, but some definite uphills with uneven ground in places so trail shoes are recommended. Please stick to the signposted route which follows clear, well defined paths and trails. Marshals will be at various points around the course and another will follow the last runner to ensure everyone gets round safely. All entrants are expected to be reasonably fit and able to run / jog most of the route without getting into difficulty. There will be 4 water stops along the route at approx 3.5, 6.5, 8.25 and 11 miles for the half marathon, and 1 approx halfway for the 11K.

**Please note this is private land, you are only allowed access to the route / grounds on race day**

Although marshalled, you are expected to be able to run, be responsible for your own safety around the course, especially when crossing the small lane at the entrance to Chillington Hall. You need to be aware of traffic so we kindly ask you not to wear head phones etc until you have crossed this small lane.

When do I get my race number & timing chip?

You collect these from registration (at the race start area) on race morning, this opens at 09.00am. Please arrive in plenty of time to get yours which will be listed alphabetically (surnames) at the collection point. We will have safety pins available but won't complain if you bring your own.
